Occupational therapists work with people of all ages to help them overcome the effects of disability caused by physical or psychological illness, ageing or accident. When we struggle with every day thing things, like getting out of bed or getting washed, it can be a major problem. Occupational therapists can help - not just so that you can cope with the basic necessities - but so that everyone can get the most from life

As an Occupational therapist I can help you to find solutions to everyday problems.

For example I can advise you on approaching a task differently, using equipment or aids, adapting your home or working environment.

Occupational therapy can help people in different circumstance become or remain mobile and independent. Occupational therapists help people of all ages to identify their daily needs and aspirations, and provide advice about preventing injuries, illnesses or disabilities, or advise on how to cope with them.

At an appointment, I will assess your condition, including any problems you’re having with everyday tasks. It’ll help if you think about these before your appointment.

This might include difficulties with:

  • Washing and dressing
  • Household tasks, including using appliances
  • Getting around
  • Driving
  • Work activities
  • Hobbies

For example, I can:

  • Provide help and training in daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, eating and gardening.
  • Offer advice on adapting the home or workplace.
  • Assess and recommend equipment, such as mobility aids, and advise on special devices to help around the home.
  • Advise on how to position yourself more comfortably.
  • Provide recommendations on how to ensure frequent rest breaks.
  • Suggest ways to help with jobs that require lifting.
